One morning I went to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, insearch of a rare migrant that had been spotted. Along the path I was greeted by this juvenile Red-tailed Hawk who posed for a long time and then took off. The Red-tailed Hawk, Buteo jamaicensis, is probably the most common raptor species in our region, often seen along roadsides or soaring. |
